Superbowl 42

Superbowl XLII - Glendale Arizona, February 2008

The New England Patriots made it back to the superbowl for the 2007/2008 season. I again had tickets to the game, though this time the outcome was less than perfect. The Patriots were on an 18-0 winning streak and had this one last game for the first undefeated 19-0 season, and just could not get it done.

Duck Week 2007

Christmas Week on the Outer Banks of North Carolina December 2007

A few days before Christmas 2007 a bunch of family and friends rented a house in Duck NC for the week. The house was 100 yards from the beach. The week was awesome, we spent a lot of time eating, drinking, playing games, watching movies and making puzzles while we were at the house. We also did a lot of sightseeing including a visit to the Write Brothers Memorial in Kitty Hawk, bird watching, and light houses.

Victory Chimes Trip September 2007

Victory Chimes Trip September 2007

Sailing trip on the schooner Victory Chimes out of Rockland Maine. September 10-14, 2007. The weather was foggy and a bit of rain the first 2 days, then bright and sunny after that. On Tuesday, 11 September we sailing in to Brooklin Maine to the Wooden Boat School along with many of the 20 ships that make up the Maine Windjammer Fleet.

August 2007 Cornwall, England

Holiday week in Cornwall England

After working 3 weeks at the World Jamboree I met up with my friends the Carters and spent a week seeing the South West coastal area of England. It was a wonderful week, great things to see, awesome hospitality, and a great way to sort of unwind after the jamboree.

21st World Scout Jamboree - July and August, 2007

21st World Scout Jamboree
July/August 2007

August 1, 2007 marked the 100th anniversary of the creation of the Boy Scouts. Since Scouting started in England, it was only fitting that this was the location for this World Scout Jamboree. I was part of the Jamboree Delivery Team working as a Food Supply Coordinator.

The Jamboree was attended by over 40,000 scouts and adults from around the world. It took a staff of over 10,000 individuals, mostly volunteers, to build, deliver and take down this small city.

Tahiti and the Society Islands Sailing
April 2007

I spent 2 weeks sailing the Society Islands of French Polynesia with 11 friends. It was an excellent trip to one of the most beautiful places on earth. We flew from Los Angeles to Papeete in Tahiti and then boarded a small plane for the final flight to the island of Raiatea. There we chartered 2 boats from Sunsail for the trip.

We spent the first couple of days sailing around the Islands of Raiatea and Tahaa before heading to Bora Bora for 4 days. After Bora Bora we returned to Raiatea for a stop over on the way to the island of Huahine. One night on Huahine was not enough, as it is an incredibly fantastic island. The crowds seem to ignore it, which is in stark contrast to the Island of Bora Bora.

After visiting Huahine we returned to the Sunsail base and then made our way back to home. Two weeks was not enough, but perhaps a return trip will be in the future.

Voyager of the Seas in France

Fall Cruise in the Mediterranean
Oct. 24-Nov 5, 2006

On October 23rd I traveled to Barcelona Spain with two friends, Terry and Ellen. We spent a few days being tourists and then were joined by Larry and Sandie on the 26th. On Saturday, October 28th the five of us boarded a cruise ship, Royal Caribbean’s Voyager of the Seas, for seven nights of exploring the French and Italian Riviera. We stopped outside, Marseilles and Nice (actually Villefranche) in France and near Pisa (actually Livorno), Rome (really Civitavecchia) and Naples in Italy before heading back to Barcelona on November 4th.

Venture Crew 2006 BVI Trip
July 1-15, 2006

In July the venture crew returned to the waters of the British Virgin Islands for two weeks of sailing and fun in the sun. It was a huge success and a great time for the 20 people that went along.

UK Lake District and a visit with The Carters
April 2006

This year I visited England again, but before heading to Tim and Nicola’s house in Lincolnshire, I spent a week walking and driving around the Lake District, which is on the west coast of England. I then spent a week at their house enjoying their wonderful hospitality, doing a bit of caching, having a great Easter dinner at a pub, and some more caching. We even placed their first cache, Honington Hill Fort cache.

Summer 2005 Venture Crew trip to Wyoming

On June 25th 14 members of Venture Crew 100 took a trip to Wyoming to do some backpacking in the Wind River Range and some day hikes and other activities in Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. The trip was a huge success; one of the highlights was spending the 4th of July in Jackson Wyoming.

St. Vincent and Grenadines Sailing trip – April 2005

I took a sailing trip with 14 other folks, mostly from New Jersey. We sailed some of the most spectacular waters on the planet. We bareboat charted 3 boats from Sunsail for two weeks and just had a spectacular time.

Easter Trip to Tim and Nicola’s in England – March 2005

I had a free airline ticket to use and a limited amount of time to use it, so I decided on taking a long overdue trip back to England to see my friends Tim and Nicola and their children, Emily and William. They had moved into a new house a while ago, and I had not seen it yet, so that made for a good excuse for a visit. It was a very relaxed vacation and a wonderful time too!

  • Some pictures of the trip. We spent some time just having a look for some GeoCaches and exploring places with names from my home town. As always, it was a great time and fun too.

Italy Vacation – September and October 2004

After returning home from the Victory Chimes trip, I had about 1½ days before flying to Italy for a 3 week vacation.

Here are some links from that trip:

  • A story of the trip. Fairly long version of what I did for 3 weeks. This contains several links to things that I saw and did. There are many, many more links out there.
  • Pictures of the trip. I came home with over 300 pictures. I managed to reduce it down to fewer than 200. I noticed that since I have been using a digital camera that I tend to take a lot more pictures. I'm not sure that is a good thing, I hope you enjoy.

Victory Chimes Windjammer Sailing – September 2004

I went sailing on the last of the Atlantic Coast three masted Windjammers and the largest sailing passenger vessel under the American Flag, the Victory Chimes. It was a one week trip that was really excellent. The highlight of the week was a “sail-in” sponsored by Wooden Boat magazine. 12 of the 14 Maine Windjammers sailed in to Brooklin Maine for the night.

Here are some links from the trip:

  • The Victory Chimes – Take a look at their website and book yourself a trip.
  • Some pictures of the trip. I took quite a few pictures. I hope you enjoy them. If you see any you like, send me an email. The original version is MUCH high quality. In the interest of saving space and improving load time of the images, the ones stored on this site are greatly reduced.

BVI Sailing – August 2004

The Venture Crew took another sailing trip to the BVI for 2 weeks in August 2004. Check out the pictures on the crew website. We chartered 3 boats again this year, I was the captain on an Athena 38’ Cat. It was an awesome time, as you would expect.

Alaska Cruise - July 2003

On July 12th, a bunch of friends and I went on a cruise along the inside passage of Alaska with RCCL Logo Top.

Here are some links from the trip:

  • Some pictures of the trip. I actually took over 200 pictures, but I knew I couldn’t put all of them here. This is what I hope is a nice sample.
  • Group photo. Most of the group got together one night on the steps of the ship for a group shot.
  • Map. Here is a map of the ports we visited

New Zealand Holiday – January/February 2003

On January 15, 2003 I traveled to New Zealand to spend some time with my friend Tony Nappa. Tony is going to University in New Zealand for a couple of years and was on summer vacation.

Here are some links from the trip:

  • A story of the trip. Long Version. This is a pretty detailed trip report of my 5 week trip.
  • Story of the trip, short version. This is the same story, but much smaller. For people that just want the basics.
  • Photos of the trip. You might want to check out the story of the trip for it to make sense, or you can just look at the photos. I have high resolution versions of all the pictures. If, for some reason, you want a better quality copy, just send me an email.
  • Photos of the America’s Cup. I was in Auckland New Zealand with Tony for the first two days of the America’s Cup races.
  • We went on a sailboat “Arcturus” to watch race 2 from the water. Most of these pictures are from race 2.

House Addition – Spring/Summer 2002

I put a fairly large addition on my house that consumed a lot of 2002. The excavation was started on April 19, 2002. Work progressed during the spring and summer. By the time fall came around, the addition was done and all that remained was the finish landscaping. The entire project was completed by the beginning of November 2002. Special thanks to the O’Neil brothers, Peter and Larry of O’Neil Construction for all their excellent work; and to Doug King of King’s Landscape Design for the stonewalls, walk ways, and landscaping.

Tanzania Trip December 26, 2000 to January 15, 2001

Over the New Years holiday for 2000 and 2001, three friends and I went to Africa for a bit of an adventure. It was a great trip and we have lots of photos. The US travel company that did most of the organizing of the trip was great. They are Journeys, International. In Tanzania, we were taken care of by a company called Shades of Africa. They were exceptional, but don’t seem to have a web site.

Here are the links from the trip:

A story of the trip. This is a pretty long account of the adventure, written originally by Tony Nappa and modified by me.

Photos of the Kilimanjaro Climb. You might need to read the story first to get all the details of what you’re looking at.
